uilding out a Site and Gaining a Compounding Effect in the Rankings by Doing
So! When you first start out in internet marketing and in SEO, you come
across all sorts of theories and ideas - many of which are very much
unworkable, many of which are workable and some of which are in fact superb
ideas that can really boost up your income and your over-all business. But
its a tough call to know which is which since you do not have your own
experience in the trenches, so to speak.

Okay, well let me tell you about one of those highly successful "techniques"
that I myself have been gaining experience in over the years that I have been
"in the trenches".

Now, for me to say I have a number of authority websites would be far from
the truth. I've been very much the guy to set and forget and move along to
the next project. I mean, some of - no, many of my sites were the 3 to 5 page
jobs put up for AdSense. I don't have many of them left now - almost all the
domain names have expired, or indeed I've started to build out a couple of
those.

On the other hand, I did build up a number of large sites with eBay
specifically in mind. Unfortunately Google took a disliking to those
recently, so I've been forced to re-think things. Fortunately, this is one of
those occasions where by being "forced" to do something different than you
were before, the potential for making far more income has hit home well and
truly!

More and more - the way I see it is that if you do find that you are doing
relatively well with a small site - one that you may have put together merely
to test a market, then it could indeed be thoroughly and truly sensible to
invest much more time, money and graft into pumping up the volume of this
particular website.

Let me explain.

As you add more content to a site, you will be inevitably ranking for more
long tail keyword phrases. I've done that myself - one of my best performing
sites was ranking purely on long-tail keyword phrases and I did no SEO on it
at all. At its height, it was seeing around 24,000 unique visitors a month.
And it had not reached nearly its potential (I'm in fact now re-working this
site with my business partner and I suspect we shall see far in excess of
even 60,000 uniques a month by the time we are finished with this baby!).

But, what if we also carried out SEO on our webpages. For sure, if you have a
200 page authoritarian website, that is going to take a whole load of SEO
work to backlink every single page. But no - what I am suggesting here is
merely to add a few backlinks to each page, and obviously for some pages
(posts) they'll want a lot more than a few backlinks because the focus here
would be to rank these ones for shorter tailed keyword phrases.

Now I'm not going to start shouting out how to build up the perfect website -
you know, the silo structure and all that stuff. As it happens, I'm sure that
the structure of some of my larger sites is pretty good, simply because it
feels right to build them out in the way I do - or indeed, in the way I
intend on doing.

But let's imagine and assume that you yourself add in a text link from each
post or page that you add to your site, which then either links back to your
home page, or links to another post or page on the same site. Not merely
willy nilly. I do mean that your link from one post is directed to another
post that is in some regard related to the content of the previous post.

In this respect, there is for sure some structure. It may not be the perfect
pyramid formation as would be in a silo (loosely speaking anyway). But there
is structure all the same, and the structure makes real sense - not only to
the website owner, but most importantly - to the website visitor (and to the
search engine spiders).

Okay, that said, you are intent on building up your backlinks that come into
your site from other sites - blog commenting, article directory submissions,
social bookmarking sites and so forth. While at the same time, you are adding
more and more content to the site and thus building up your internal linking
network exponentially.

Now, to get the rankings in the first place - when we are first starting our
website, its going to take rather a lot of effort, particularly so for the
more competitive keyword phrases. That goes without saying. But the more
posts/pages we add to this site, the more internal linking we do, the more
backlinks we point towards the site from external sources - well, the easier
it becomes to rank for additional keyword phrases.

Now why would it become easier? Why is it that at the start its going to take
a lot of effort to rank for a semi-competitive keyword phrase with say -
6,000 exact global searches monthly, when in 4 months time after adding lots
of site content and building constant backlinks to the site, its then rather
a lot easier to go ahead and rank for a completely different keyword phrase
that obtains some 12,000 exact global searches a month?

Seems odd, right?

The backlinks that we've been busy adding over the preceding months to
certain pages on our site with the intention of gaining good rankings for
more competitive terms, some of the "juice" from all those backlinks is now
spreading throughout our whole site due to the amount of internal linking we
have been busy adding in. Thus, for each new page or post of content we add,
it already has strength - just a little - from our previous backlinking
efforts, which makes it that much more easy to rank in the likes of Google.
And the more we continue to do that, the easier it becomes to rank for new
keyword phrases.

This is the compounding effect and you will never achieve this in a small
website.

Let me add though - its all very well thinking to yourself "ah, okay, so I
just need to build up a great big website and I'll do really well...".

Hmmm... not quite. You still have the dilemma that your website simply may
not sell very well - conversion ratios of site visitor to final purchase are
very low. And if that is the case, you will have done all this work for
little in return. Even people who have been at this game for years and years
sometimes still get it wrong.

It does then make sense to use the aforementioned methods (pages 81 to 83) to
ensure a niche or sub-niche that will indeed be profitable. Its impossible to
ensure 100% but at least you can get a good feel for the market if you do
your keyword research, and then do some early website development research.

Once you gain an insight into the potential for profits and for sure you
sense there are profits to be had, then is the time to begin planning your
strategy for building out the site and tackling a whole variety of other
related keyword phrases.

That said, it is wise to consider this at the outset. There is little point
trying to build out a very large site if there are few related keywords, or
even if there are lots of related keyword phrases but you find that the
search volumes are so, so low that it may not be worth while making the
effort.

If there were very low search volumes for a whole gamut of related keyword
phrases, I personally may well still be intent on working them into my site.
If a lot of them are "buyer" type keyword phrases, then even though we may be
looking at 300 - 400 searches a month, these could be very valuable additions
to the website.

Not only will you find site visitor to buyer conversion ratio to be
potentially high, but its very probable that to rank for such keyword phrases
is going to be easy and fast. Thus you can move on to the next ranking all
the sooner.

actually began in the year of 2003 with a brief foray when I purchased one of
Corey Rudl's products (he has since died in a car crash at Nascar, in June
2005, God rest his young soul!) .

Back then, products were sent in the mail - this one was a 300 page tome
about how to set yourself up on the internet, which included building up html
websites (I'm not good at html!) and search engine optimization. Mind you,
search engine optimization even 7 years ago is nothing like what it is now.
Its much, much tougher now to rank for pretty much anything as the
competition to do so is far greater than ever before.

I seem to remember that most of it - the Cory Rudl product - went right over
my head, and that kind-of ended my IM career for the time being. Total costs:

I then picked it up again - the career I mean, in 2007 when I purchased one
of Jim Robert's products - again, it was posted via the mail and consisted of
a series of DVD's showing how to set up a website (before the days of
WordPress).

However, I did manage to get these html sites up and that was the main thing
- the fire was now kindled and smouldering.

But it was not until January 2008 that I really got into this whole SEO and
IM game big time. I made up my mind to really focus and try and crack this
thing called internet marketing, and make some money from it. If I knew now
how much time, effort and money would be involved in that journey I wonder if
I ever would have begun!

At that time my life was on the verge of total disaster - not that I want to
go into it, but trust me, I know of many folks who have given up on life with
less troubles than I had back then.

It was thus a fantastic thing to happen that my focus turned so much to the
internet - it helped to pull me through those times of real sadness and
depression. Regardless of the fact I was spending a small fortune and making
zip in return!

To be honest, I'm the sort of guy that will try out things for a few months
and pack up, grumbling that the system is "not workable". Sound at all
familiar??

I tried a number of other pursuits to financial success - Telecom Plus -
selling telecoms stuff door to door. Ouch! I still get commissions even to
this day from that though. Totally passive income! That was back in 2004.

Then a few years later, I tried out Kleeneze (early 2007) - selling door to
door again but this time via product catalogues. I remember trudging the
streets with 50 cataglogues in a bag slung around my shoulder in the freezing
cold weather on that very first day wondering if I'd actually make any sales
at all. Within 7 months I'd got my income up from zero to �1400 a month
(about $2,200 US) and the accolades were high for such an achievement.

I regularly had people come to me in the monthly meetings asking me what my
secret was. I was often asked on-stage to be presented with a plaque or
whatever, to commemorate my achievements. At the very first of those monthly
meetings I attended in Nottingham, in central England, I was treated like a
small king by the guys who were head of my upline.

All that part was real nice! And the promise of a bonus car (Mini Cooper
convertible right on up to BMW M5 Series) and a few holidays each year once
certain further levels of achievement were gained, was always going to be a
great motivator to keep on going. But the daily trudge of working the
business was taking a real toll on me - mentally. And due to massive debts I
was stuck in between a rock and a hard place.

What more motivation do you need to really try hard to work a business than
to pay off huge debt??

But the mental side of things eventually got the better of me, and I got back
to my old line of landscaping and set up a business in that instead. I
initially approached my Klenezee customers to inform them that I would no
longer be delivering catalogues, but instead would be doing
gardening/landscaping. And that went well for a while. It was fairly cheap to
set up - I had some basic equipment already from previous years, and then
ventured online to eBay to purchase some other items - hedge trimmer,
strimmer, chain saws, rotary mower etc.

I landed a couple of fairly large hedge trimming jobs early on and so all was
well with the world!

Anyhow, when I did begin my internet marketing journey (call it what you
will) I simply believed that one day it would all come together, all this
learning and doing, doing and learning.

Some day, it would fit just like a jigsaw and I would indeed reap the just
rewards!

Additionally, this internet thing really suited my own character - finally,
at the age of 40, I felt comfortable doing something every day of my life,
and did not even tire of it once! Damn, what a feeling! I finally felt I had
found my inner self - something clicked with me and working online. I never
had sensed this before.

As it happens, I suspect the journey since then to now - some 7 years later
(if you wanna count the initial forays), has been more of a roller coaster
ride than I would dared to have imagined.

The highs - ranking a site in top 30 in Google was a high for me back then!
The lows, watching my 2 sites drift away from sight (not that they were ever
truly in sight) and I was helpless to do anything about it. Helpless!

But I kept on plodding along, spending too much money on shiny new glossy
products - one after the other, and making no money with any of them. Oh
dear, does this sound familiar? You did this too, huh?

But do I view this as wasted money? Has it been a waste of my time (I often
would work a 60 - 70 hour week in addition to a part time job (my landscaping
business, which by then had gone part time for various un-toward reasons),
which paid my relatively meagre weekly bills and also paid for my online
pursuits too (thinking back, my monthly internet bills would be around an
average of $400 US, and sometimes quite a bit more).

No, its not been a waste of time nor money. At the time it seemed that way,
but in hindsight I've learned so much by making so many mistakes myself, so I
have first hand knowledge. And to be honest, without first hand knowledge you
have to rely on what others tell you is right.

In the line of SEO and internet marketing, what others tell you is right is
very often wrong. So the only way to know for sure is either you follow along
with folks you fully trust, or you do it yourself. I had to do it myself
because at that time, even though I had purchased so many high-priced
glossies, I still did not know anyone I could trust enough to tell me how
things really are. But you do learn through your own experience who you can
trust to say it how it is, and ultimately you become one of those folks
yourself, and then other folks start coming to you for advice.

Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.

ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
